Occupy Boston day 4

For the past several days we have been camped out in Dewey Square in protest, but there has been comparably little press coverage of our actions; this has finally changed for the better. Numerous news sources, both American and international, have been covering our rally starting yesterday. Below is a series of links to the press coverage that we have received.

Yesterday was spent primarily at camp, where numerous groups of people talked ideology and proposed demands for our protest as a whole. Overall, the rally is going very well, particularly when contrasted with the troubles faced by our fellows in New York. There are 3 pieces of good news that I see as positive signs towards the sustainability and effectiveness of our protest:

  1. While there is not yet a consensus, these talks are both organized and respectful. I was surprised that even with the wide differences in ideology and lack of a central authority, everybody seems able to talk together without the discussions getting out of hand or name calling. Just the simple fact that our group can remain cohesive while discussing as divisive a subject as politics is in my opinion a sign that we will be able to sustain our movement for a good amount of time without fractures.
  2. The police have been nothing but professional and courteous to us. I have yet to see a police officer so much as raise his voice at our protesters; this is in stark contrast with the NYPD, who arrested hundreds of the Occupy Wall St. protesters just this week.
  3. Donations, both in monetary and goods form, have been coming in to help sustain our protest. While the Occupy Boston protest has very little fundraising presence, donations keep coming in. Among other things, several coffee makers, water, and over 40 pizzas were delivered yesterday in shows of support by citizens and other groups.
PLEASE VISIT THE OCCUPY BOSTON PROTEST AT DEWEY SQUARE (ADJACENT TO SOUTH STATION) IF ONLY TO LISTEN TO WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY. THERE ARE NO OBLIGATIONS OR COSTS OTHER THAN TO BE POLITE AND RESPECT THE RULES OF ORDER.
